About Michael
Michael is a highly respected and experienced leader in the wealth management industry and is the former Chief Executive Officer of Focus Financial Partners. Prior to that, he had a decades-long tenure, including as CEO and Chairman, at The Colony Group, now Focus Partners Wealth. He was also a Senior Partner and the Vice Chairman of the Tax Department at the international law firm WilmerHale.
Michael has been widely recognized for his leadership in wealth management, including ten selections by Barron’s as one of the nation’s top 100 independent financial advisors, induction in the Barron’s Hall of Fame, inclusion on Worth magazine’s list of the top 250 wealth advisors, and recognition as a ThinkAdvisor LUMINARIES winner for Executive Leadership. He has also been named a “Super Lawyer” six times by Massachusetts Super Lawyers.
A lifelong learner, Michael is committed to sharing his expertise with clients, colleagues, and the next generation of industry leaders and is a frequent speaker at industry and other conferences. He has published over 100 articles and is the lead author of the book Personal Financial Planning for Executives and Entrepreneurs (1st and 2nd ed.).
Michael has served on the Fidelity Clearing and Custody Solutions Advisor Council and the Schwab Advisor Services Advisory Board. He previously served on the Board of Advisors for Boston University’s Program for Financial Planners and as Co-Chairman of the Boston Bar Association.
Michael is also an active supporter of multiple philanthropic causes. He was Chairman of the Board of the National Brain Tumor Society for many years and remains an Emeritus Board Member. He won the Invest in Others Catalyst Award for his service.
Michael received a Bachelor's degree from Brandeis University, a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School, and an LL.M. degree in Taxation from Boston University School of Law.
